Navagraha Temple is located in the city of Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, on the banks of the Shipra River at Triveni Ghat. This temple is dedicated to the nine celestial bodies (Navagrahas). The Amavasya, which falls on a Saturday, draws a large crowd to this location. In recent years, the religious significance of this temple has grown significantly. Along with the main deity Lord Shani, the temple also houses the idol of Dhayya Shani. This temple is said to have a connection to the history of the Hindu calendar known as the Vikram Samvat. History of the temple

This temple is believed to have been built by King Vikramaditya approximately two thousand years ago. It is said that after the construction of this temple, King Vikramaditya started the Vikram Samvat calendar. This approximately 2075-year-old temple is the only temple in the country where Lord Shani is worshipped in the form of Lord Shiva. The temple was founded by Maharaja Vikramaditya, who initiated the Vikram Samvat calendar. Currently, the Vikram Samvat is 2075.

Significance of the temple

At the Navagraha Temple, it is believed that those who sincerely worship Lord Shani experience relief from all their afflictions. The temple is dedicated to the nine celestial bodies, namely the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Rahu, Ketu, and Saturn. On the day of Shani Amavasya, more than five quintals of oil are poured on Lord Shani, and later the oil is auctioned.

The construction of the temple

The architecture of the Navagraha Temple is very beautiful. It has a grand entrance gate. The temple is surrounded by exquisite sculptures on all sides. It is built on several pillars, each displaying different deities. The temple houses the Garbha Griha of each planet. The temple complex is spacious for performing puja and rituals for the peace of the celestial bodies.

Offerings of the temple
